Sharing resources to fight COVID-19
COVID-19 and its aftermath will be with us for months, and the AFT is here to help you keep track of the latest on this unprecedented pandemic. Our rich collection of resources covers everything from face masks to free food for school children shut out of school lunches. Here’s a sampling of what we have available, including contract language on coronavirus leave policy, webinars about how to convert classes to remote learning, opportunities to influence coronavirus policy in Congress and personal stories from our members.
Keep checking AFT.org/coronavirus for updates.
Union power
We have bargaining language about personal protective equipment (PPE), remote work and issues specific to healthcare workplaces, plus memoranda of understanding for union leaders to use to communicate with employers and information about the rights of non-healthcare essential employees.
Practical matters
Check out the fliers and information on hand-washing, infection prevention in child care centers, the virtues and flaws of cloth face coverings and more on our main resource page.
Mental overload
More than two dozen videos, podcasts, articles and other resources will help members and their families address the anxiety, depression and other mental health issues exacerbated by the pandemic. You’ll also find self-care tips, stress relief for healthcare workers and free therapy for frontline healthcare professionals through Eleos Health.
Always learning
Share My Lesson’s coronavirus content helps educators who need ideas about reaching special education students and tips on remote learning among other things, and also provides lesson plans for students. Solidarity Academy webinars give higher ed members information on how to convert classes to remote learning, how to cope with student debt during coronavirus work shutdowns, how federal legislation affects members and more.
Telling our story
News stories all across the media show the AFT’s deep involvement in the public discourse on the coronavirus (google American Federation of Teachers), but we also have our own news and personal stories from AFT members on AFT Voices, and stories and press releases on the AFT website.
Take action
You can sign a petition to demand the administration act now and fill the urgent need for more PPE for healthcare professionals or use a letter-writing link to Congress to advocate for important legislation that will protect AFT members and the people they serve; protect healthcare workers on the frontline; and address the economic impact of the pandemic.
I have a question
Use the AFT hotline, 800-900-2343 or email outbreak@aft.org for more information.
