Dear Friends,

NO WAR ON IRAN!

Today, people across the country and around the world are reaching for each other to talk about how we can prevent the Trump regime from launching full scale overt war against Iran. Yesterday, the Pentagon claimed responsibility for drone strikes in Baghdad, performing a targeted assassination of top Iranian official, Major-General Qassem Soleimani, along with Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. The latest attack comes on the heels of the Trump administration calling up troops to Iraq after facing massive resistance from Iraqis to its decision to launch new airstrikes earlier this week. We hear our government’s drums of war and it’s time to equip ourselves to revive a mass movement in the US against war and militarism, and to act in solidarity with the people of Iran.

This extrajudicial assassination comes in the context of brutal US-imposed sanctions that have devastated the Iranian economy. Going back farther, Iran has faced 70 years of US intervention, including threats, coups, sanctions, backing of repressive regimes, and additional assassinations. This escalation and the violence likely to follow will land most heavily on everyday Iranian people as the ravages of war always do. It is hard to know the regional and global impacts that a wider war would bring. We cannot let this continue; we must hold our government accountable. Join an action on Saturday, January 4th: NO MORE U.S. TROOPS TO IRAQ OR THE MIDDLE EAST! U.S. OUT OF IRAQ NOW! and NO WAR/NO SANCTIONS ON IRAN!

Catalyst Project has created a study group curriculum to counter the disinformation campaign about Iran, educate people about the history and current situation in Iran, and inspire people to oppose US aggression against Iran. Each of the 4 sessions includes questions for discussion, and the format can be adjusted to fit different needs. You can find the curriculum here:

NO WAR - NO SANCTIONS: A Study Group Curriculum
to Support Action to Stop War on Iran

We hope this curriculum will encourage people to both reflect and act to deter further US aggression in this critical time. Please share with people in your community, on your campuses, in your local networks, your union, faith communities, etc–let’s build the broad and strong anti-war movement we so urgently need.

In solidarity with the people of Iran,
