Sen. Cotton (R-AR) said, “If the Mexican government can’t protect Americans inside of Mexico, then the American government might have to take matters into our own hands….This is only fifty miles away from our Southern border. We can certainly defend American citizens inside of Mexico if Mexico is not willing or able to do so.”

Tom Cotton is talking about committing an act of war against a US ally. The Mexican government wasn’t calling for an invasion of the US after their citizens were killed in the El Paso mass shooting. Eight Mexican citizens were killed in the El Paso mass shooting, but the Mexican government didn’t respond by threatening an invasion.
An invasion or US military operations in Mexico would be the craziest stunt that Trump and the Republican Party could pull to try to save themselves in the 2020 election.
It isn’t a coincidence that Cotton was on Fox News playing up the fear and danger along the Southern border the day after Republicans got thumped in a series of state and local elections. Fear is the bread and butter of the Trump Republican Party, and they are trying to get their voters primed for 2020 by suggesting that the United States invade Mexico.
