World BEYOND War’s affiliated organization outside of Chicago, the West Suburban Faith-Based Peace Coalition (WSFPC) has announced the 2020 Peace Essay Contest with $1,000 to be awarded for the best entry that promotes knowledge of the Kellogg-Briand Pact and the cause of peace. Second-place prize is $500 and third place, $300.
WSFPC sponsors the contest annually as a way to commemorate and to promote awareness of the Kellogg-Briand Peace Pact, an international agreement that outlawed war. Representing their respective countries, U.S. Secretary of State Frank B. Kellogg and French Foreign Minister Aristide Briand signed the pact Aug. 27, 1928. A total of 63 nations joined the pact, making it the most ratified treaty in history at that time.
There are no restrictions regarding the age of contestants or their country of residence
To enter the contest:
- Send an email by April 1, 2020, with “Peace Essay Request” in the subject box, to contest coordinator Walt Zlotow at zlotow@hotmail.com with a copy to wsfpc.peace@gmail.com. Include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and age (if younger than 18). Your application acceptance as a contestant will be acknowledged in an email that contains your assigned four-digit essay number.
- In 800 words or fewer, write an essay on “How Can We Obey the Law Against War?” Include the name(s) and position(s) of the person(s) to whom the essay will be directed; person or persons of your choice who can help promote knowledge of the Kellogg – Briand Pact and from whom you expect a response. If information is missing or confusing you will be contacted by email or phone.
- As soon as possible, but no later than April 15, 2039, send your essay to the person(s) named in the application, and a copy to zlotow@hotmail.com with the assigned four-digit essay number noted in the subject box.
- Submissions will be judged on the quality of the essay. Lack of response to your essay will not be factored into essay judging. However, it will help us determine the effectiveness of the Peace Essay Project.
- By May 30, 2020, send essay response documentation, if any, to zlotow@hotmail.com with the assigned four-digit essay number noted in the subject box.
- Contest winners will be notified one month prior to the annual Awards Banquet to be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, commemorating the 92nd anniversary of the signing of the Kellogg-Briand Peace Pact. Winners will be invited to be publically honored at the banquet. A well known peace activist will serve as the Keynote Speaker.

don’t wait a couple of decades to do this, do it now! no war, no government! we need government to have war and its just an insane notion! government is slavery as we have to realize! were lying to ourselves and others that we need governments but we don’t! war is slavery! we cannot just make governments stop wars but we can do it ourselves!
