Trump says he ‘doesn’t agree’ with Dr. Fauci’s testing concerns

The Plague Dogs, directed by Martin Rosen, is a rare feat of animation and cinema. It's the story of two dogs who escape from an animal research facility, and try to understand the brutal and unflinching human world around them. The animation is gorgeous with dynamic cinematography, filmed with the same care and respect that the best live action films have. From the plot description, it sounds like a statement against anti-animal abuse, which it really isn't. It's more about the innocence lost by the dog protagonists, Snitter and Rowf, caused by the aforementioned abuse. Nothing is manipulative or sentimental regarding the tragic events in the film. They just are. For example (minor spoilers), when Snitter experiences intense neurological symptoms as a result of his experimental brain surgery, Rowf remarks to a fox that it's sad, but somethings not right about him. That's it -- no speech about how he's there for him because of his condition, just that it's a fact. I wish more animated films look the risks of portraying the medium not as a genre, but as a way to explore more topics that cannot be filmed, as The Plague Dogs does. Try to seek out the 103 minute cut if you can, Shout Factory put it out on Blu-ray last year. I didn't see the shorter 86-minute cut, but it apparently lacks some scenes with character development, which is pretty key in this film. Also saw that Brad Bird was an animator on the film, so that was a nice surprise. The Plague Dogs was on my radar for a while, and I'm so happy I finally got to see it. Such a gem. Has anyone else seen this movie, what do you think about its themes?

President Trump on Thursday rebuffed concerns from Dr. Anthony Fauci that the country was behind with coronavirus testing, saying “I don’t agree with him.”

In an interview earlier Thursday, Fauci, an infectious disease specialist and respected member of the White House coronavirus taskforce, told Time Magazine he feared the US was not where it needed to be in terms of COVID-19 screening.

“We need to significantly ramp up not only the number of tests, but the capacity to perform them…” Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said.

“I am not overly confident right now at all that we have what it takes to do that. We are doing better, and I think we are going to get there, but we are not there yet,” he added.

Asked about the comments during the White House coronavirus briefing, the president said the country was “very advanced in testing” despite just 1.4 percent of the population being tested.

“We’ve done very well in testing. We’ve tested far more than anybody else in the world,” Trump said.

“I don’t agree with him on that. I think we’re doing a great job on testing. If he said that, I don’t agree with him,” he added.

Fauci and Trump’s relationship has been strained since he was brought onto the taskforce — the president earlier this month boosting a tweet with the hashtag #FireFauci.
