MARSHALL — Although Minnesota schools will continue to be closed for the next few weeks and distance learning will be in effect beginning today as a result of the COVID-19 virus, it won’t stop students and their families from being offered help during this time.

Marshall Public Schools, as well as several other school districts around Lyon County, will continue to help area kids who need access to school meals by handing out free daily meals to children age 18 and under.

Meals will be distributed each weekday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., but won’t be available on April 9, 10 and 13. Meals given on Wednesday, April 8 will include meals of the 9th, 10th and 13th. Grab-and-go meal packages will include a breakfast or lunch option with a snack, but there are a few rules. Meals are not allowed to be eaten inside the school and you must take a milk with each meal. Also, parents can’t show up to the pickup locations by themselves and take the meals for their families. School staff must distribute the meals to the children, or those who are with an adult, either in person or in a vehicle.

There are four meal pickup locations available around town, including Holy Redeemer Church, St. Stephen’s Church, Samuel Lutheran School and Marshall Middle School. At the middle school, meal pickup will occur at Door No. 14 in the back of the school.
