EARTH WEEK NYC 2020
SEND A MESSAGE TO BLACKROCK

Send a message to the engineers who maintain BlackRock's financials systems. Simply type in a phrase, either your own or one from the list below, and hit submit.

Can’t think of a message? How about:

  • Stop Funding Climate Destruction

  • Wake Up and Save Our Planet

  • Bail Out the People

  • There’s No Economy on a Dead Planet

  • People Over Profits

  • We Demand a Future

Where does my my message go?
The message will go directly to BlackRock's server logs. Usually, engineering teams monitor logs for “unusual” behaviors such as a high volume of errors. If we send enough messages carried by 404 errors, this should trigger the alert system with our calls for change.

Is this legal?
Yes! The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act specifies that it’s a crime to cause “any impairment to the integrity or availability of data, a program, a system, or information”. Your message will merely cause a 404 error (even if it might be a higher than average number of errors), and will not be accessing parts of their codebase that a user normally doesn’t have access to or preventing other users accessing all the normal parts of the website. But just in case, we’ll also be including with each message instructions on how to contact our Infrastructure team to turn off this system if we are causing damage to their system.

Does my message have any identifiers that can be traced back to me?
No. Your message will not contain any personally identifiable information that can be traced back to you.
