Trump blames ‘Fake News’ for reporting wind blew down part of border wall

President Trump on Sunday blamed the “Fake News” for reporting that a section of the southern border wall had fallen over to make it “sound terrible” but the panels have been repaired and will last “forever.”

“Last week the Fake News said that a section of our powerful, under construction, Southern Border Wall ‘fell over’, trying to make it sound terrible, except the reason was that the concrete foundation was just poured & soaking wet when big winds kicked in. Quickly fixed ‘forever,’ ” he said in a posting on Twitter.

A section of wall toppled in high winds at the end of January and some of the 30-feet-tall panels ended up falling on trees on the Mexican side of the border near Calexico, Calif.

Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ralph DeSio said there were no injuries in the collapse.

“No property damage or injuries were sustained during this uncommon event while the concrete was drying and construction remains ongoing,” DeSio said.

Wind gusts in the area at the time were clocked at nearly 40 mph, the National Weather Service said.

The work was part of a project to replace 11 miles of the border barrier in the area.
