“Stand for Minnesota” is a 24-hour fundraiser beginning 12:01 a.m. Friday, May 15, to help people struggling to pay basic bills during the pandemic.

People who want to help are asked to donate between $1 or $10 by texting STANDFORMN to 76278. Money will go to help people in danger of disconnection of their utilities and eviction from rentals as COVID-19 restrictions ease. The effort is a partnership between nonprofits the 30 Days Foundation, PRISM and the Angel Foundation.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has hit Minnesotan families hard with layoffs and lost wages,” 30 Days Foundation founder and longtime Twin Cities musician Mick Sterling said in a news release. “During the shutdown, the state disallowed any disconnection of utility services as well as any evictions from rental or mortgage property during this time. However, as restrictions are eventually lifted, the threats to basic shelter needs will increase.

“If thousands of us decide to Stand for Minnesota by just donating $1-10 bucks — that’s not a lot of money — the impact will be huge for families who are hurting and facing financial challenges they can’t meet.”

The 30 Days Foundation will distribute 33 percent of what is raised to PRISM in Golden Valley and 33 percent to the Angel Foundation in Mendota Heights. The remaining 34 percent will stay with the 30 Days Foundation. Each charity will get the money by May 20, according to the news release.
