Apparently, half of the active military is as tired of President Donald Trump as the rest of us, according to a Military Times poll showing a drop in his approval rating since his 2016 election. The commander in chief’s approval rating of 42% marked his lowest point since being elected president, and about 50% of troops reported “an unfavorable view” of Trump, the military news source reported Tuesday.
That's compared to a November 2016 poll that showed 46% of troops has a positive view of the reality star and 37% shared a dimmer view, according to the Military Times. The recent survey, which the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University helped administer, questioned 1,630 active-duty Military Times subscribers from Oct. 23 to Dec. 2. Peter Feaver, a former adviser to former President George Bush, told the news source the military generally “moves along with public opinion but lags conservative. In this case, we’re seeing military members shifting along with the public, but still staying a little more pro-Trump than the rest of the country.”
The president’s December disapproval rating was 51% for the general public, and his approval rate was 45% according to the latest Gallup poll. That represents a slight increase from Trump's November approval rate of 43% and a drop in his disapproval rate of 54%, the poll showed.
Pollsters, however, found that Americans are still split on whether the president should be impeached and removed from office regarding a July phone call in which he pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate political rival and former Vice President Joe Biden allegedly in return for security aid. Forty-six percent of those surveyed opted to have Trump impeached and removed from office and 51% opposed impeachment and removal, according to a Gallup news article.
