The nation and twitterworld is awash in joy as trump is impeached by Congress for the crimes and shame he has brought to the White House. The front pages of the nation’s leading newspapers are splashed with news and images of the Impeachment. Let’s grab our morning coffee and take a look at some of them.
WaPo has a full-width headline, with Nancy Pelosi in the title image!
NYT has a full width headline too. Looks like trump is waving goodbye in the picture. We wish he would say Dasvidania and be gone forever.
The LA Times has the perfect image — the competence and tenacity of Pelosi juxtaposed against the lawless chaos president.
USA Today has a succinct summary of the arguments and faux-arguments -
Senate GOP prays trump won’t tweet during trial? LoL!
NY Daily News — Forever stained? Heck, he is a stain on our country.
The Hill — the picture is a study in contrasts.
Nice sign!
A few impeachment-day-after cartoons about the little president -
He will cry fake news, but the mofo has been impeached.
Bill Bramhall captures the hard truth, which has probably not hit trump yet.
The Mace of the Republic
Pelosi wore a large brooch representing the Mace of the Republic, which symbolizes the legislative authority of the House of Representatives.
From en.wikipedia.org/… — The current mace has been in use since December 1, 1842. It was created by New York silversmith William Adams, at a cost of $400 (equivalent to $10,000 in 2018), to replace the first one that was destroyed when the Capitol Building was burned on August 24, 1814, during the War of 1812. A simple wooden mace was used in the interim.
In accordance with the House Rules, on the rare occasion that a member becomes unruly, the Sergeant at Arms, upon order of the Speaker, lifts the mace from its pedestal and presents it before the offenders, thereby restoring order. There have been at least six instances where the Mace was used to quell disorder.
Nancy Pelosi wore a similar brooch during the 2019 State of the Union Address.
Epilogue
Let’s keep in mind that we have a long way to go in the fight for justice and a better future. McConnell and Senate Republicans have already acquitted trump; trump and his cohorts will continue wreak havoc on the constitution and our institutions in the following months.
Let’s keep up the good fight and keep neutralizing trump’s and the GOP spin and the destructive tweets and propaganda that is sure to follow. Let’s get behind our candidates, including members of Congress up for reelection, volunteer, donate, write, and energize our base.
