EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minn., is meeting with a bipartisan group in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Feb. 13, to discuss and spread ideas that have helped rural communities thrive.

Smith hopes the newly formed Rural Economic Working Group, which includes Republican South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds, will highlight success stories like the Greater Grand Forks Greenway — which transformed a flood-prone area along the Red River into a scenic trail and park.

"(We hope to) lift up what's working in small towns and rural areas and try to learn from that so that we can make sure that the federal government is as good a partner as possible," Smith said.

Smith hopes to find solutions to problems with rural healthcare, housing and broadband internet access.

People can send their ideas to Smith by calling her St. Paul office at 651 221-1016.
