We are in the midst of a climate and ecological crisis and we will face extinction if the government’s negligent inaction continues. The window for change is narrow and that is why we choose to rebel through peaceful civil disobedience. Today our rebels staged several consecutive actions in the Financial District to mark the first day of Rebellion Week. Extinction Rebellion Youth read declarations of rebellion at City Hall and then proceeded to Battery Park, where they lead The Red Brigade and other performers and rebels to Wall Street in a funeral procession for all the living beings that have been and will be affected by government inaction in the face of climate breakdown. Rebels participated in die-ins in protest of the financial district’s funding of fossil fuels, deforestation, and other ecologically destructive activities. Die-in locations included the Wall Street Bull Statue, the New York Stock Exchange, the intersection of Broadway and Pine, where rebels blocked traffic for over an hour. Rebels from Bangladesh and Puerto Rico spoke to the crowd about how the communities that contribute to climate change the least are already feeling its effects the hardest. Rebellion Week is just getting started with 93 arrests and counting. Come learn more about the rebellion - we’ll be in Washington Square Park through October 12 with workshops, crafts, live music and more.   / 684704261957207   #extinctionrebellion #xrnyc https://xrebellion.nyc   / xrnyc     / xr_nyc     / xr_nyc
