'We Love Arizona' Weekend of Action
Join with Swing Left Sonoma County & Swing Left in February 2020
HOW WE'LL WIN ARIZONA IN 2020
In Arizona, only voters who are registered Democrat or Republican can vote in the Presidential Preference Primary in Arizona. But there are more no-party-preference voters in the state than Democrats! February 18 is the deadline for registering as a Democrat for the Presidential Preference Primary which takes place on March 17 in AZ. This is a great chance to identify Democrat-leaning Independents and make our GOTV work easier!
We're registering voters in key areas where their votes will count the most. Voters in Maricopa County (the greater Phoenix area) will be decisive in flipping an important state legislative seat blue and electing a Democrat to the Senate and the Presidency. We need to make sure these Democrats have the resources and volunteers they need to go up against the GOP in Arizona, and win.
We'll be working with legislative districts located near Phoenix, including Legislative District (LD) 22. Here are examples of likely actions we will be taking with local Democrats:
- Registering new voters
- Updating voter registrations for the AZ Presidential Primary in March (only registered Dems and Repubs can vote in the primary, not independents/no party preference)
- Encouraging voters to sign up for Permanent Early Voter List (absentee ballot)
- Canvassing for the incumbent Dem state rep to help fight gerrymandering
- Canvassing to find out what issues are most important and get vote pledges
- Recruiting volunteers for the local Dem Legislative Districts activities

All actions will be in greater Phoenix suburbs with exact locations specified in January 2020. You may come for all or part of this holiday weekend: Monday, February 17, 2020 is President’s Day.

We are a grassroots organization, like your team, and so we ask you to be self-reliant during this weekend of action. While we’d love to be able to treat everyone to a weekend in Phoenix, we don’t have the resources for that. Please bear in mind that Swing Left will not provide or broker meals, accommodations, or transportation for the weekend.
But, once you complete the signup form, we will connect you with other volunteers heading to Phoenix so you can coordinate among yourselves to share rides and rooms. We will also be working with local AZ Swing Left activists to identify supporter housing and rides (we cannot promise there will be supporter housing or rides for everyone).
We’ve watched what our self-starter activists accomplished in 2018, and we’re excited to unleash that can-do attitude in 2019!
