New Hampshire has nation's highest pediatric cancer rate, CDC says
A new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said New Hampshire has the country's highest rate of pediatric cancers.
According to the CDC, people under the age of 20 were found to have the highest overall rates in the northeast, with an average of 188 cases for every 1 million people.
In New Hampshire, that number jumped to 205 cases per million.
States epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan said this concern is a high priority for New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services.
"Our cancer control program is looking at trying to minimize known risk factors for various types of cancer with community members and legislators,” Chan said.
The lowest rate of pediatric cancer in the nation, according to the CDC, was found in Mississippi.
