ESPs are Essential to the Success of Distance Learning
WCTA and WCESP have been advocating for utilization of ESPs during distance learning because we know they positively impact students. On August 18, 2020, WCPS paraprofessionals were notified that they were NOT to report to work on Monday, August 24, 2020. As reported in the Herald-Mail, ESPs are guaranteed positions only through Thanksgiving. Washington County Teachers Association and Washington County Educational Support Personnel are soliciting input from WCPS employees.

As educators, your voices matter, and this is an opportunity for you to share suggestions regarding utilization of ESPs, including paraprofessionals, food service personnel, and transportation staff, as WCPS implements distance learning. Consider the contributions ESPs make to our schools and the learning environment, and don't be afraid to think outside the box.

Please be mindful of your vocabulary and the expectations you include in your suggestions because the suggestions will be shared with WCPS leadership and WCBOE members.
