THE REBEL TRAIL
On the morning of June 20th, Extinction Rebellion with communities and groups which stand for people and planet will depart Birmingham Curzon Street and walk to London along the route of High Speed 2. 125 miles. 7 days.

OUR MESSAGE: JUSTICE FOR PEOPLE AND PLANET. DECIDE TOGETHER. THIS IS OUR AMAZON.

Communities in the North of England, routinely ignored in national spending packages, were #NeverAsked what they needed. The UK government is spending their taxes on a new, high-speed link to London, when key rail links between Northern cities are poorly maintained and already unaffordable for most. The estimated cost of the project is already 400% over-budget two decades before it is due to be completed and the plans include three special stations linked to privately-owned airports which have each filed for permission to expand*. The new train will funnel these passengers directly to London at high speed. The system is broken. Ask the people. #PeoplesAssembly #DecideTogether

Right now, 63 Ancient Woodlands are being wholly or partly destroyed by HS2 ltd. This is their #LastSummer and your last chance to see them. This is #OurAmazon. These are our lungs. Countless species are being decimated that were already under threat due to habitat loss. Globally, we are living through the sixth mass extinction. HS2 is no small issue, it is the poster child of a dangerously unjust system. Our children will pay its cost. £110bn for a destructive, unaffordable third train-line to Birmingham cannot be essential while our national debt increases, our health system is underfunded, and our natural life-support system is being destroyed. HS2 will not be carbon neutral in this century by the contractors' admission*. This government pledged UK neutrality by 2050. #Madness.

This train must be stopped. Take the Rebel Trail.
