RSVP for Public Comment on 8/24
Mayor Breed promised to ‘fundamentally change the nature of policing in San Francisco’ and her press release claims she is diverting $120 million from policing to black communities. In reality, the budget she released on Friday is smoke and mirrors— only cutting $18 million (2.6%) next year. It cuts more from the library this year than the SFPD, doesn’t shrink the size of any of our police forces, and falls way short of the mayor's announced vision to replace police with civilians for non-violent calls for service
The Supervisors have heard department budget presentations and soon will begin to make cuts and add money back in, and vote to approve it by the end of September.
THIS IS OUR LAST OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE OUR VOICES HEARD IN PUBLIC COMMENT THIS BUDGET CYCLE!!!
We need to keep putting pressure on the Board to defund law enforcement throughout this process so that they have to take the communities’ demands seriously.
The full day will be public comment and the meeting typically goes all day. RSVP here so we can text you updates on the length of the queue throughout the day!
