Digital Week of Action

Whether you’re an educator, parent, or a friend of our public schools, join us for our Digital Week of Action from Monday, April 12 to Saturday, April 17.

When nearly 4 out of 10 Colorado educators are thinking of leaving the profession and when our students lack the resources and supports they need to thrive, it’s time to fight for exceptional public schools in every neighborhood.

Day 2: A Voice on the Job

Tuesday, April 13, 2021

Educators’ working conditions ARE our students’ learning conditions.

As certain politicians and large corporations continue to attack our rights as working people, it’s critical we come together to protect our seats at the table and our ability to negotiate our working conditions, benefits, pay, and more.

Share what being in a strong union and having collective bargaining rights means to you.
Be sure to use #ExceptionalPublicSchoolsCO, #UnionStrong, and #edcolo in your posts and tag CEA. You can also DM us a link to your post.

Day 3: #CMASRelief

Wednesday, April 14, 2021

In a year of students and educators bouncing between in-person, virtual and hybrid learning, the last thing we needed was to have the brakes slammed on learning to accommodate several weeks of standardized testing.

Colorado was one of only two states whose plan to scale down CMAS testing was approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education!

In light of this win, what have you and your students been able to do? What have you been able to teach or do instead of preparing for these tests? How have you been able to support your students’ wellbeing instead of preparing for these tests?

Share your answers on social media and be sure to use #CMASRelief, #ExceptionalPublicSchoolsCO and #edcolo and tag CEA in your posts! You can also DM us a link to your post.

Here are some prompts to get you started:

  • Because I spent less time preparing for and giving CMAS tests this year, my students were able to ___________.
  • Instead of taking CMAS this year, my students got to ___________. Think about what we could do if we didn’t have to do CMAS testing at all!

We’ll be sharing and retweeting your posts on CEA’s social media all day!

Day 4: Paying A Fair Share

Thursday, April 15, 2021

Many Colorado students aren’t getting the education they deserve because our educators and support professionals don’t have what they need. For years, certain politicians and wealthy special interests have balanced the state budget on the backs of our public schools, creating a more than $10 billion deficit in public education funding over the last 10 years.

Sign the Petition

Tell Gov. Jared Polis and our General Assembly that everyone — especially large corporations — should pay their fair share, and funding our public schools MUST be a top priority.

Day 5: Healthy and Safe Schools

Friday, April 16, 2021

Even though many of us have received our vaccines, many of our school buildings and classrooms still don’t have the infrastructure required to keep students and staff safe.

With the passage of the American Rescue Plan, Colorado’s schools are set to get $1.17 billion in funding to help us get to a place of uninterrupted in-person learning.

Fill Out a Mock Work Order Form

Share some ideas of where you think this influx of federal funding should go towards in our public schools. Is it better ventilation systems and classroom set-ups in your school? Or more cleaning supplies, facilities staff, and personal protective equipment? Or something else?

Fill out this mock work order form and share on social media!
Be sure to use #ExceptionalPublicSchoolsCO and #edcolo in your posts and tag CEA. You can also DM us a link to your post.

Delegate Assembly: Fighting for Exceptional Public Schools

Friday, April 16, 2021 and Saturday, April 17, 2021

Every public school should be a place with exceptional teaching and learning, no matter what neighborhood it serves. Our state legislature must find the funding necessary so all students get the public schools they deserve.

Send a Postcard

Write to Governor Polis with a message asking for his support of the collective bargaining bill. You can include a brief message about why collective bargaining is important to you as a public school educator.

We’ll take your answers and send a physical postcard on your behalf.
