WATCH FACULTY, STUDENTS & STAFF CALL ON BOARD FOR MORE SAFETY MEASURES & FLEXIBILITY TO TEMPORARILY MOVE ONLINE

At the January 26 SMCCCD Board of Trustees meeting, AFT 1493 Executive Secretary Marianne Kaletzky shared some results from AFT’s faculty survey on class and work experiences from the first week of in-person instruction and she called on the Board and the District to allow flexibility for faculty to temporarily move their classes and other work with students to an online synchronous modality if they determine their in-person conditions to be unsafe or if there are excessive numbers of students unable to come in-person due to Covid infection or exposure. In addition, numerous faculty, students and staff made public comments describing their first week experiences and asking for improvements in safety measures (such as Covid testing and the provision of N95/KN95 masks for all faculty, staff and students) and for the District to allow faculty to temporarily move to online work based on their in-person classroom or workplace conditions. Watch the statements to the Board below.
