Tell Congress: We need economic recovery legislation as big as the crises we face.

Climate crisis. Racial injustice. Global pandemic. Mass unemployment. Our response to these crises will shape our society for decades.

And now that President Biden has unveiled his American Jobs Plan, we must ensure that Congress immediately passes this strong legislation -- and then goes further. We must build on this proposal with continued action and legislation that creates millions of good-paying jobs and invests in our climate and communities at the scale these crises demand.

This is a critical step in our fight for a healthy and just planet for all, but we know it won't be easy. Republicans in Congress and powerful special interests are determined to obstruct transformational change that meets this moment, so enthusiasm and support for bold legislation has never been more important.

Take action and tell Congress: pass the American Jobs Plan now, and then continue working for sweeping legislation that reimagines a new normal and creates a healthy and just planet for all.

And we have a road map to continued legislation and a just recovery: the THRIVE Act in Congress will put millions of people back to work building a clean energy economy that prioritizes climate, racial, and economic justice that is at the scale we need to truly address the many crises we face. Like the Green New Deal, the THRIVE Act will help us build a society that fosters justice, not crisis. It will create 15 million good jobs, resulting in the largest expansion of clean, renewable energy in history. It prioritizes investment in Black, Brown and Indigenous communities who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. It ensures clean air, clean water, and healthy communities for all.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and we can't afford to miss it. Take action now for the American Jobs Plan and the THRIVE Act!

Dear President Biden, You are coming into office in unprecedented times. From COVID-19’s unequal impact to uprisings for Black lives to growing climate impacts, the past four years have further demonstrated the stark inequities that exist in our society. The intersection between systemic racism and climate impacts is no more theoretical than the five storms that battered Louisiana’s Black and Indigenous communities in last year’s record-breaking hurricane season. In the industrial cities of the Midwest where racist redlining has led to lower wages and higher air pollution for many Black folks, air pollution has increased the risk of death from COVID-19. For millions, the links between systemic racism, economic injustice, environmental crisis, and public health have been just as real as the air we breathe. The crises we face are interlocking — so our solutions must be as well. As President, you now have a precious window of opportunity to push for bold structural policy changes to help us tackle these overlapping crises simultaneously, starting with the economic recovery package that you plan to unveil soon. Your executive actions rolling back many of the devastating Trump-era policies and the $1.9 trillion immediate relief bill you proposed to Congress represent a good faith down payment toward delivering a bold recovery plan that meets the needs of the American people and our planet. We urge you to make this recovery package mirror the THRIVE Agenda — a plan to put millions of people back to work building an economy that prioritizes climate, racial, and economic justice. Hundreds of union, racial justice, and climate organizations and over 100 members of Congress are backing THRIVE. The THRIVE Agenda will help us build a society that fosters justice, not crisis. As you develop your own plan to provide much-needed recovery, it’s imperative that plan meets the scale of our overlapping crises and includes the strong labor, equity, and climate standards of THRIVE. The broad vision of THRIVE helped us to build broad support. By fighting for solutions that are simultaneously pro-jobs, pro-climate, and pro-equity, THRIVE has united unions, climate organizations, racial justice groups, and grassroots energy in the powerful movement of movements that we need to accomplish policy change. It proposes a just economic recovery plan that upholds eight pillars: - Create millions of good, safe jobs with access to unions - Build the power of workers to fight inequality - Invest in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities to build power and counteract racial and gender injustice - Strengthen and heal the nation-to-nation relationship with Indigenous nations - Combat environmental injustice and ensure healthy lives for all - Avert climate and environmental catastrophe - Ensure fairness for workers and communities affected by economic transitions - Reinvest in public institutions that enable workers and communities to thrive Please implement THRIVE’s principles in your economic recovery package and help us tackle these overlapping crises of climate change and economic and racial inequity.
