We applaud the Board for refusing to expand its jails with costly construction. Now that our Supervisors have stated their commitment to reducing the jail population, we need them to put their money where their mouth is. The budget being proposed by county staff is largely a status-quo budget that invests in cages and harm. We need bold vision from our Board to invest in people, housing, neighborhoods, parks, and community-based mental healthcare. Public Safety starts with meeting basic human needs for all in our community.
