Vote NO on SB 657

SB 657, the Air and Water Pollution bill, would take away the power of the citizen boards to provide the necessary oversight for the DEQ.

State code requires the citizen boards to accept DEQ's recommendations to issue permits unless there is a valid, legal reason not to. The boards receive advice from a dedicated Assistant Attorney General before making their decision.

It's bad for business and communities when boards have issued permits based on DEQ recommendations only to have the federal courts throw them out for not being in compliance with environmental laws. Currently, the DEQ is being investigated by the Office of the State Inspector General for not enforcing environmental laws.

We need the citizen boards to provide the necessary oversight to protect our air and water.
