MA Needs Same Day Registration & Strong Jail-Based Voting Reforms!

VOTES Act Amendments

Our democracy is the strongest when everyone is able to make their voice heard. When everyone's right to vote is protected, we are all better off.

The MA Senate recognized this last October when they passed robust voting reforms in the VOTES Act, making expanded mail-in voting and early voting permanent, allowing voters to register or update their registration at the polls (Same Day Registration), strengthening protections for jail-based voting, and more.

Unfortunately, the MA House is leaving out key parts of the bill. The House version drops Same Day Registration and the important jail-based voting protections of the Senate bill.

These voting reforms weren't radical. They were the bare minimum we should be doing in 2022.

Tell your State Rep to support amendments to add back these provisions:

Amendments #5 (Gentile), 11 (Sabadosa), and 40 (Elugardo) would allow voters to register or update their registration at the polls.

Amendment #13 (Miranda) would ensure that individuals who are incarcerated and currently eligible to vote are provided with the necessary information and materials to do so, create reporting requirements for houses of corrections, and build voter registration into the re-entry process.
