Hit the Trail for Redistricting Reform!

Start: Thursday, April 29, 2021 4:00 PM

End: Thursday, April 29, 2021 6:00 PM

Bike or walk Chester County’s premier pedestrian trail as we the people advocate for redistricting reform to ensure that legislative voting district maps are drawn fairly and without partisan favor.

Hit the Trail is being held in concert with the League of Women Voters' National Day of Action and League and Fair Districts PA events across the state. We’ll be joined by the three Chester County Commissioners, who at the beginning of the event will present a proclamation declaring April 29th to be Redistricting Reform Day.

Political and racial gerrymandering distorts and undermines representative democracy. It allows legislators to select their voters rather than voters to elect their legislators. Gerrymandering runs counter to equal voting rights for all eligible voters.

Redistricting should be color-blind, nonpartisan, and transparent. District maps drawn this fall will remain in place until 2031. This is our last shot at reform to impact voting districts for a decade.

Let’s show support for LACRA – the Legislative and Congressional Redistricting Act (HB 22 & SB 222), the Fair Districts PA-endorsed bills. Additional information plus limited supplies of masks, T-shirts, and hand flags will be provided at the event. Those who already have Fair Districts PA T-shirts and pins are encouraged to wear them!

Let’s walk and roll!

Another Day of Action event for our heavily gerrymandered area will be at Valley Forge National Park at 5pm, hosted by Leagues of Women Voters of Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties.
