Housing March and Sleep Out for an Eviction-Free neighborhood

Start: Saturday, August 01, 2020 6:00 PM

Join us on Saturday, August 1st at 6pm for a housing march and sleep out in our neighborhood to demand an #EVICTIONFREENYC. We know that those most affected by the pandemic have been Black and people of color. The situation for many of our neighbors has gotten even more drastic during this pandemic. The truth is, that even before the pandemic the situation was already terrible. According to eviction data collected by CSS, tenants in majority Black neighborhoods were more likely to be evicted than tenants living in majority white neighborhoods--three times more likely!

You can see this stark racial inequity within the crowded rooms of the housing courts that have been closed since the pandemic hit. Soon, however, the eviction moratorium will be over, the eviction mill will reopen and our neighbors will be at greater risk of being evicted. This is what we mean when we say that housing justice is racial justice. In our neighborhoods of Ridgewood, Glendale, Maspeth and Middle Village our elected officials have been a little too quiet while our neighbors suffer and it's time we make some noise about it. Will you join us on Saturday, August 1? This is all hands on deck--we need everyone out marching with us. Tell your friends and neighbors to please save the date!

Thank you to Devika Sen for the flyer <3
