Heal Healthcare and House the Poor: Healthcare and Housing Town Hall:
Thursday, August 27, 6-7:30pm
New York is a rich state and yet we have the highest levels of inequality. We know that there is enough wealth to go around to make sure everyone’s basic needs are met. Our state government must take bold and immediate action to secure housing and healthcare for all through this public health crisis and beyond.
Join the NYS Poor People’s Campaign on Thursday, August 27 for the Heal Healthcare and House the Poor: Healthcare and Housing Town Hall to hear from activists on the front lines of the struggles fight for our rights to healthcare and housing
Even before COVID-19, the 50% of New Yorkers who are poor and low-income faced a healthcare and housing crisis. Half of low-income renters were already rent-burdened, and millions were uninsured or underinsured.
Now the pandemic is exacerbating these crises with devastating results. 1.4 million New Yorkers are at risk of eviction in the next month, and 300,000 have lost their health insurance due to job loss so far.
On Thursday, Aug. 27, the NYS Poor People’s Campaign will hold a virtual town hall sharing the testimony of impacted New Yorkers and our demands with our state legislators and candidates. All are welcome!
The Town Hall will be held via Zoom and streamed on Facebook. RSVP to receive the Zoom info. Spanish and ASL interpretation and captioning available.
