Amend the Open Meetings Law to continue fully virtual meetings

Since Governor Hochul's Executive Order restored the ability of public bodies to conduct meetings fully virtually, Citywide and Community Education Councils and District and School Leadership Teams in New York City have been able to hold public meetings safely and with high levels of participation by the members of the public.

With the new COVID variant, it remains necessary for these public bodies to continue fully virtual meetings to protect public health while continuing to conduct the business of serving one million students.

Unfortunately the current Executive Order expires on January 15, after which time Citywide and Community Education Councils and District and School Leadership Teams will be required to hold either in-person or hybrid meetings, the latter of which is the worst option for public meetings.

We are asking you to reach out to your state legislators and the Governor to take action that will allow virtual meetings for public bodies.

In solidarity,
