Nathan Bryant Loose

Our son, brother, friend, and colleague, Nathan Bryant Loose, joined his Mother in Heaven on June 9, 2020 at 8:09 AM at his home in Mount Vernon, WA. <br /> <br /> He was born May 21, 1973 to Elmer and Zerine Loose. He attended Sand Point High School in Alaska his freshman and sophomore years before returning to his hometown Adna, WA where he graduated in 1991. He went on to attend community college before graduating in 2001 with his bachelor's degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Western Washington University. <br /> <br /> He was recognized statewide as a leader for in advocacy for the rights of people with disabilities. His passion was in improving access to homecare services for people with disabilities, and ensuring that the choices and preferences of disabled persons are respected. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of Disability Rights Washington (DRW) and the chair of the DRW Disability Advisory Council from which he is being awarded the 2020 DRW Breaking Barriers Lifetime Achievement Advocacy Award. The award will be given in his honor in September. He volunteered for DRW for many years and often traveled to Olympia to advocate in the legislature. Nathan was very active with the Center for Independence North and served on Governor Inslee's Achieving a Better Life Experience Governing Board. <br /> <br /> He strongly believed that everyone has a right to their own home, make their own decisions, and to live and work in the community. Having a disability should not mean being forced to live in a nursing home or other facility, and Nathan proved that every day. Nathan was a staunch advocate for employment opportunities for people with disabilities. He owned his own business, and was justly proud of the work that he did helping individuals who were in nursing homes or homeless connect with the services and housing they needed to establish a home in the community. <br /> <br /> His life was complete when he welcomed his daughter, Arriah August Loose, in 1993 and later his grandson, Orian Lee Marine in July 2018. His daughter and grandson were his ultimate enjoyment and love of his life. <br /> <br /> Nathan was one of the most generous people who focused on bettering the lives of those around him. He was the voice for those that had no voice. <br /> He is survived by his father, Elmer Loose III; his daughter, Arriah and grandson, Orian; two sisters, Laveda Loose (Lonnie Davis) and Coleen Loose/Author Joann Carpenter; three brothers, Elmer Loose IV (Sophie), Harvey Loose (Karen), and Roland Loose (Lori); and numerous nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. <br /> <br /> A graveside service for Nathan will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 11 at Claquato Cemetery, Chehalis WA. <br /> <br /> A memorial service will be held on Lake Whatcom at 3940 Blue Canyon Road, Sedro Woolley WA at 1 PM on Saturday, August 1. If you choose to attend this service, please consider bringing your own lawn chair. <br /> <br /> Memorials may be donations to one of the non-profit organizations dear to Nathan's heart.
