(KNSI) — Severe thunderstorm warnings went out in the early morning hours Wednesday as a system bringing hot, humid air to the region tore through both western and central Minnesota.

KNSI received reports of downed powerlines and a camper flipped in the Sauk Centre area about 5:25 a.m. The camper was unoccupied at the time, and we have gotten no reports of any injuries. Overnight, one-inch hail was reported in the Fargo area, and the storms did not weaken as they continued marching to the southeast.

Behind this system is some of the hottest weather the state has experienced this summer. Temperatures could hit the triple digits leading to a heat warning being posted for St. Cloud over to Madison, through Redwood Falls, Mankato, Fairmont, and through the Twin Cities. Dewpoints Wednesday will be in the 70’s, pushing the heat index or “feels like factor” over 110 in some spots.

The area is also not done with severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has St. Cloud in between the slight and enhanced risk of more severe storms Wednesday. There is a chance for more damaging winds, hail, and even a few tornadoes are not out of the question. Forecasters strongly urge people have a way to get weather warnings while out and about.

This information is valid and current as of 6:13 a.m. July 28, 2021. Changing forecasts will lead to an updated report.
