Dear President Biden, 

I’m writing to you to express my support for a recent letter that Representatives Barbara Lee, Mark Pocan, and Jake Auchincloss sent you urging you to cut the Pentagon budget for the Fiscal Year 2022. 

Cutting the Pentagon budget and investing in our local communities is now more urgent than ever. I was disappointed to hear reports that your Administration is considering a FY2022 budget with the same level of Pentagon spending as the last fiscal year.Even if we cut the Pentagon budget by a modest 10 percent, we would still spend more on our military than the next ten countries combined. 

We’re in the middle of an ongoing public health crisis that is wreaking havoc on the lives of millions across the globe, now is not the time to continue the failed strategy of pouring hundreds of billions into the Pentagon budget while our social programs languish. 

Cutting the Pentagon budget and reinvesting in the needs of our communities is urgent  if we're going to address the biggest threat that faces our planet: climate change. The Pentagon is the world's single largest consumer of oil and one of the world's top greenhouse gas emitters. If we're going to take the future of our planet seriously, we can’t wait to cut the Pentagon budget. 

President Joe Biden, as your constituent I am calling on you to re-evaluate our spending priorities as a nation. For the future of our planet and the health of our communities, we must cut the Pentagon budget and invest in humanitarian aid, global health, and sustainability initiatives.
