Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has hit out at "weak Republicans" in a seeming rebuke of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's criticisms of her.
McConnell (R-KY) attacked "loony lies and conspiracy theories" on Monday, branding them a "cancer for the Republican Party."
The Republican figurehead added: "Somebody who's suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.'s airplane is not living in reality.
"This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party."
Although he did not name Greene in his comments, first reported by The Hill and subsequently the Associated Press, she has previously made similar claims and promoted conspiracy theories.
In a tweet following McConnell's remarks, Greene said: "The real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose gracefully.
"This is why we are losing our country."
She later added that she refused to be "canceled."
"I'm the 'greatest threat' to the Democrat mob and the activist media," she wrote.
"They hate me because I represent your America First views. They think Trump is gone, so they attack you and me. He's not gone. And we won't back down and we will never give up! We REFUSE to be canceled!"
Newsweek has contacted McConnell and Greene's offices for comment.
The dispute comes amid efforts to strip Greene of her committee assignments.
Democrats have previously called on House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to take action. The House Rules Committee announced on Monday that it would take up a resolution that could in effect remove Greene from her committee seats on the education and budget committee.
Pressure has also grown on Greene outside of Congress, with advertising campaigns calling on her to resign.
In a previous statement to Newsweek, Greene said: "Democrats and their spokesmen in the Fake News Media will stop at nothing to defeat conservative Republicans. They are coming after me because I'm a threat to their goal of Socialism. They are coming after me because they know I represent the people, not the politicians. They are coming after me because, like President Trump, I will always defend America First values.
"They want to take me out because I represent the people. And they absolutely hate it."
