TEMPERANCE – More than 25 families were served during a Mobile Food Pantry held Saturday at Bedford High School.

The event was organized by the Monroe/Lenawee County AFL-CIO Central Labor Council’s Community Services/Community Action Liaison Program, in partnership with United Way of Monroe/Lenawee Counties, Gleaners Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan and Monroe County Opportunity Program.

The sponsors of the event were the Bedford Lions Club, Bedford Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council, Women of Bedford United and Mark & D Ellsworth, owners of DaCapo Coffee.

“The Bedford Lions Club was pleased to financially support and participate in the distribution of food through the mobile food pantry,” said Greg Stewart, President of the Bedford Lions Club.

“As always, we are eager to serve our community and the people of Monroe County.”

Also on site to help with the distribution were Bedford Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council members, led by Sharon Throm; multiple Organized Labor Groups; Bedford Public Schools Board Members; and employee groups wanting to give back to their community.

In total, more than 30 volunteered to distribute the food to members of the community in need, organizers said.

All leftover food was delivered to area organizations to distribute to other families in need.
