Shane Leedon Jenkins of Houston, Texas, was arrested Friday on several charges related to the rioting at the U.S. Capitol after the FBI said it followed up on tips it received from an internet sleuth.
Federal investigators were contacted on Jan. 18, less than two weeks after the riot unfolded, by someone who said they determined Mr. Jenkins was among those involved, the FBI said in a court filing.
The witness said they did not know Mr. Jenkins personally but had identified him among the rioters “based on internet research,” a special agent for the FBI wrote in the charging document.
Additionally, the witness gave the FBI a screenshot from a video the person said depicted Mr. Jenkins smashing a window of the Capitol building, plus Facebook and Twitter accounts in his name.
Court should be familiar territory for this guy, although the remote connection will likely be new to him...

In mid-January, an online sleuth filed an FBI tip with information about Jenkins' social media accounts and public videos showing his involvement in the riot, according to the complaint. The defendant appears in multiple photos and videos with a reddish-blonde beard, red beanie and blue hoodie, a tattoo under his right eye and a neck tattoo with the words, "MAMA TRIED."
Federal agents located a video showing Jenkins remove a metal survival hatchet from a backpack, put on black gloves and smash a window to the left of the Lower West Terrace tunnel, according to court records. The window repair cost roughly $1,500, officials said.
Security and body-worn camera footage shows Jenkins throw a pole, a desk drawer, a metal rod and flagpole at a group of Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Capitol Police officers, striking some of them in the head as they attempted to prevent the crowd from infiltrating a tunnel, court documents allege.

A parole officer, who had been assigned to Jenkins for several years, reportedly identified Jenkins for authorities using publicly posted photographs.
Jenkins is now facing federal charges, including assault on a federal officer, destruction of federal property, civil disorder, knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, and knowingly engaging in violence in any restricted building or grounds.
His current slate of charges can be found in the Criminal Complaint...

The FBI said they reviewed a 2014 photograph of Jenkins from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice which also showed him with a tattoo under his right eye and another across his neck with the words, “Mama Tried.” They added that Jenkins’ driver’s license shows the same tattoos.
These tattoos are visible in photographs that show Jenkins was in the area of the Lower West Terrace, the FBI said. These photographs show Jenkins wearing the red Nautica beanie, a blue hoodie and black jacket.
According to the affidavit, the FBI said they reviewed other public video from the Capitol riots, along with security and bodycam video provided by U.S. Capitol Police and the Metro Police Department. In these videos, at 4:33 p.m., Jenkins can be seen throwing objects at both USCP and MPD officers stationed at the entranceway. Some of the items they spotted Jenkins throwing included a pole, desk drawer, a pipe and a flagpole. Several of these items landed on the heads of officers inside the entranceway tunnel.
