Charter schools are publicly funded — but there’s big money in selling them

Back in March, I wrote about a report by a public education advocacy group, the Network for Public Education, that explained how many for-profit management companies evade state laws banning for-profit charters. They do this by setting up nonprofit charters — which are publicly funded but privately operated — and then directing the schools’ business operations to related corporations.
