It served as a healing moment at the end of the bitter impeachment trial, all 100 senators standing and cheering for Capitol Police officer Eugene Goodman.

“Foresight in the midst of chaos,” Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) said, explaining Goodman’s work Jan. 6 to divert an angry mob from the Senate chamber.
