MV X-Press Pearl, a container ship owned by X Press Feeders Ltd., caught fire and sunk creating the largest environmental disaster in Sri Lankan history spilling oil, acid, polythene pellets, chemicals, and other toxic contaminants into the Sri Lankan coastline.

Immense devastation has occurred to 10,000 sq km+ of marine life, 100 km+ of beaches and coastline, 40 sq km+ of wetlands and lagoons and tens of thousands of livelihoods.

The environmental and economic cost of the disaster is expected to be more than USD 5 billion to cover clean-up, fire-fighting, loss of economic activity and loss of ecosystem services. 

We as, citizens of Sri Lanka and other countries affected, demand that X Press Feeders Ltd promptly cover all the expected environmental and economic costs to Sri Lanka from this disaster over the next three years.
