First in The Blast: Lulu Seikaly, the Democrat running against U.S. Rep. Van Taylor, R-Plano, is going on the air with her first TV ad today.
The challenger is airing a 30-second commercial that tightly links Taylor to President Donald Trump, saying the two are "playing politics with our health." The spot includes a timely issue, bringing up Trump's push to confirm his latest U.S. Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, and how she could be decisive in the court striking down the Affordable Care Act.
Seikaly appears onscreen at the end and says she approves the message "because I'll always protect health care for Texas families."
The ad starts airing today as part of a “high-six-figure broadcast and digital buy” in the Dallas media market, according to Seikaly's campaign. It's also a coordinated buy with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Taylor is among the most recent additions to the DCCC's target list in Texas, which now encompasses 10 GOP-held seats. Seikaly, a Plano lawyer, has also been named to the DCCC's Red to Blue program for top challengers.
Taylor went up on TV this week. He's running a contrast spot that brands Seikaly as "Liberal Lulu Seikaly" and cites a Dallas Morning News article that noted his efforts to be "Mr. Bipartisan."
