The U.S. Senate is currently looking over a $4.5 trillion Infrastructure Plan, submitted by President Joe Biden, and a group of bipartisan senators.
Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels voiced his support of the bill during his Manitowoc City Update yesterday morning on WOMT and WCUB Radio.
Nickels said that “The policies agreed to will grow the economy, create good jobs, enhance our competitiveness, and make our economy more sustainable, resilient and just.”
Nickels said the bill will help the President achieve his goals of creating good jobs, tackling the climate crisis, and sustaining economic growth in the future.
As for how the bill would help Manitowoc specifically, Nickels explained, “The bill provides $17.5 billion for major projects that are too large or complex for traditional funding programs, and a $55 billion investment in clean drinking water, including dedicated funding to replace lead service lines and the dangerous chemical PFAS.”
Nickels called for citizens to contact our representatives in the Senate, Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin, to encourage them to vote in favor of the bill.
