MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin Department of Transportation Secretary Craig Thompson says the state will benefit from the bill.
Thompson added the bill will add more than a billion dollars to what Wisconsin expected in highway funding. That will bring the total to more than $5 billion over the next five years.
"This is a new generation type of investment in infrastructure, and which really is the underpinning of our economy, especially in Wisconsin, where you've tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing, which are all very transportation dependent. So we think this is really good news for Wisconsin," said Thompson.
Thompson says WisDOT is looking at big transportation projects, like I-39/90 between Madison and Wisconsin Dells. However, the agency's top priority is fixing the infrastructure already in place.
