Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., moved closer to passing President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package over the weekend, as the Senate approved a slightly modified version of his plan on Saturday along party lines. The bill, which is expected to be approved by the House and signed by Biden within days, includes direct payments to millions of Americans as well as other forms of financial assistance for low-income families. Many experts say it amounts to the biggest single poverty-relief legislation in recent U.S. history.
