Letters: Biden showed vigor, wisdom, honesty

Joe Biden’s acceptance speech was full of vigor, intelligence, honesty and wisdom. His ability to reach out, to empathize and to listen are qualities we need in a president.

Some young people see Joe’s age as a factor in this election. I see it as a plus. Age has given him the experience we need in a president.

Joe is a voracious reader who knows our history. He keeps up with the intelligence reports about our allies and our enemies. He will surround himself with the brightest and the best and will encourage the ideas of youth who will become leaders themselves.

The authoritarian government of Donald Trump will not hear your voice. The RNC has no platform but Trump’s. The Democratic platform is well thought out from diverse points of view.

The challenge for women to vote was a hard-won battle in 1920. There are more battles ahead. Never lose that privilege because make no mistake, our democracy is on the line!

An economy that

works for the wealthy

The stock market is about the main source of profits -- profitable businesses. The market-leading stocks are overpriced relative to their earnings. Interest rates should reflect the risk the lender takes and the borrower's opportunity to make more money than the lender, taking into account inflation.

The tax system has made the wealthier richer and richer. Working people do not get a fair shake.

The economy needs to correct the above.

Leslie Gray Streeter

will be missed

Good writers who offer laughter and tears at almost the same time add an escape route in times of stress – certainly this time qualifies for that description. The loss of writer Leslie Gray Streeter at the Palm Beach Post after all these years cast another shadow on this time.

We wish her much happiness and success in her new ventures but will miss her greatly.

Trump responsible

for chaos, madness

President Donald Trump says he's the only barrier to "anarchy, madness, and chaos." Doesn't he realize that we are living in his chaos and madness now with an unchecked pandemic, more than 42% of jobs lost, leaving millions destitute, explosive reactions to systemic racial injustice and the specter of climate change all around us?

This is on his watch. Why should we think he could make any of these better?
