The Duluth International Airport will use $2 million in federal funds for construction of a taxiway and commercial service apron.
Work on Taxiway A was anticipated to begin Monday, July 20, and be completed within nine days, according to a news release from the airport. The project involves removing and replacing the top 2 inches of asphalt pavement from Taxiway A1 to A3.
The project costs approximately $697,000. KGM Contractors is the contractor.
The commercial service apron expansion project will include extending the existing concrete apron to the east by 90 feet. This will provide more capacity for terminal area parking. It will also include an extension of the green "no taxi" island and add in-pavement edge lights to mitigate pilot confusion.
This project will cost approximately $1.47 million. Ulland Brothers will be the contractor on this project, which is set to begin in early to mid-August and take 30 days to complete.

All costs of both projects will be paid with federal funding, the release said.
