Peterson Pushes EPA to Help Allow Farmers to Use Previously Purchased Dicamba Products

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – In a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler Friday, Congressman Collin C. Peterson, who chairs the House Committee on Agriculture, urged the Agency to use its existing flexibilities to ensure farmers who have already purchased dicamba products can use those products on this year’s crop. The letter follows a decision from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that vacates the registrations for three dicamba products previously approved for use on dicamba-tolerant soybeans and cotton.

“These products are critically important to soybean growers for weed control, particularly soybean growers in my district, and the court’s decision comes after crops are in the ground and crop protection decisions have already been made,” said Peterson. “Given the uncertainty and the challenges these growers faced in the last growing season and continue to face now, I encourage the EPA to use any available flexibilities to allow the continued use of existing stocks of dicamba products already purchased for the 2020 crop year.”
