Join Saturday, Oct. 2 marches, rallies for reproductive rights

On Saturday, Oct. 2, union members and many others across Washington state will join the Women’s March in nationwide marches and rallies for reproductive rights. From Seattle to Spokane, Bellingham to Vancouver, thousands will be taking to the streets at more than 30 different events in Washington to demand an end to the dangerous, escalating attacks on reproductive rights and freedoms in this country.

With the 2019 passage of Resolution #31, “the Washington State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, affirms that reproductive rights are workers’ rights and will defend and support efforts to obtain and maintain health care for working people covering all reproductive rights choices.”

More than 600 rallies and marches are planned in all 50 states. To promote safety amid the pandemic, all actions are taking place outdoors, have a physical distancing plan, and attendees will be asked to wear masks.

These rallies and marches come as the U.S. Supreme Court is set to begin oral arguments on Oct. 4 in a case that will determine the future of abortion rights for all Americans.

More than 110 organizations have joined forces to take part in the #RallyforAbortionJustice, organized by Women’s March, to show that Americans’ overwhelmingly support Roe v. Wade and that this is nothing more than another unacceptable right-wing power grab to control the bodies, futures and lives of pregnant and birthing people.

The mission of Women’s March is to harness the political power of diverse women and their communities to create transformative social change. Women’s March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists and organizers to engage in their local communities through trainings, outreach programs and events.
