A LABOR DAY GATHERING IN PORTLAND -- CALLING FOR ACTION FROM WASHINGTON TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF WORKERS ACROSS THE STATE -- AND THE COUNTRY.... THE MAINE A-F-L C-I-O -- ALONG WITH THE SOUTHERN MAINE WORKERS CENTER AND LABOR COUNCIL -- HELD A CARAVAN ACROSS PORTLAND YESTERDAY... PUSHING FOR LEGISLATION TO BRING PANDEMIC RELIEF -- AND FEDERAL AID TO STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS. THEY NOTED MANY OF THESE WORKERS ARE PUTTING THEMSELVES AT RISK BY GOING TO WORK THIS LABOR DAY -- AND THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC. People gathered on Labor Day to push for more federal help to Maine workers

The Maine AFL-CIO, Southern Maine Workers' Center and Southern Maine Labor Council gathered over the Labor Day holiday to push for more help from Washington.The groups are calling for legislation to help workers across Maine and the country, to bring pandemic relief and federal aid to state and local governments.Speakers noted many of these workers are putting themselves at risk by going to work this Labor Day and throughout the pandemic.They were joined by local firefighters and members of the USPS.Speakers also aimed to bring attention to racial disparities in the workplace and the overall impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
