Representative Yvette Clarke is facing four challengers in this month's Democratic primary in New York's 9th Congressional District, which includes a large swathe of central and southern Brooklyn. Clarke and three of those opponents -- Adem Bunkeddeko, Isiah James, and Luchi Gayot -- met for a virtual debate on the evening of Sunday, June 7. The debate was hosted by South Central Brooklyn United for Progress; Pakastini American Youth Society; Brooklyn Movement Center; and Greater Prospect Heights Mutual Aid; and moderated by Gotham Gazette editor Ben Max. The fifth candidate in the race, City Council Member Chaim Deutsch, declined the invitation to debate.

Voting in this primary is only open to Democratic voters of the district. Primary day is June 23; early voting is June 13-21; and all voters are eligible to vote absentee by gubernatorial order in light of the pandemic.
