Critics want Hagedorn to change position on some issues

Members of Congress are likely to hear citizen concerns about climate change when they tour their districts this summer.

Representative Jim Hagedorn from Minnesota began a series of town meetings last week in La Crescent.  Although other issues got more attention than the climate at that first meeting, activist Janette Dean from Caledonia hopes Hagedorn will hear more about it.

Dean believes Republican Hagedorn has been too slow to take action on certain issues.  She was one of the critics who was asked to be quiet and not disruptive during the La Crescent town hall.

Dean was upset that Hagedorn has opposed investigations of the January rioting in Washington.

“We’re not sure than a normal Q and A is…the type of activity we need to be engaged in right now,” said Dean. “We need to register our extreme shock and resistance to these actions.”     Dean would like to see Hagedorn change some of his positions on issues like voting and climate change.

On the same day that Congressman Jim Hagedorn visited La Crescent, he had announced that his kidney cancer has returned.

Dean hopes that Hagedorn’s illness might lead him to reconsider his opinions, saying “maybe this is also a time for him to reflect on the legacy that he wants to leave” in the 1st Congressional district.
