Minnesota Drafts $700 Million Plan to Address PFAS in Water (1)

Minnesota is planning to spend about $700 million of its $850 million settlement with 3M Co. to address PFAS contamination in drinking water in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, the state announced Thursday.

Minnesota agencies have been working with 3M and affected residents to provide clean drinking water to 14 communities affected by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance contamination. In the draft plan released Thursday, the state is proposing to focus on treating groundwater—a long-term solution that may leave residents with maintenance bills once settlement funds run out.
