Official Call for the 2021 NewsGuild Sector Conference

Below is the official call to the 2021 NewsGuild Sector Conference, which was emailed to local officers and leaders on Sept. 15, 2021.

The 81st convening of The NewsGuild-CWA Sector Conference will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, Oct.16, 2021, and continue until business is complete.

Due to emergency conditions in New Orleans, La. and public health concerns, the Sector Conference will be held by teleconference using Zoom. All scheduled business will be conducted digitally.

Delegates and alternates to the Conference, elected by secret ballot in accordance with Articles VIII and XI of the Guild Constitution, are required to register in advance using the Sector Conference Online Registration system. The Sector Conference Rules adopted in 2019 continue in effect for this Conference unless or until they are amended by the delegates. Under those Rules, all Resolutions must be submitted to the Executive Vice President no later than two weeks before the Sector Conference and may not exceed 200 words.

To fill an interim vacancy in the Region 2 Vice President position following the resignation of Steve Cook, nominations will be taken at the Sector Conference from Region 2 delegates. A contested race will be decided by mail ballot referendum among the good-standing members living in Region 2.

Region 2 is comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.

This notice is provided in accordance with Article VII.1 of the Constitution. Because this will be a virtual conference, The NewsGuild-CWA Executive Council has waived the delegate and alternate registration fee. Payments already submitted to TNG will be returned to locals.

Additional information will be distributed as the Conference date nears.

TNG officers and staff were excited at the prospect of being with all of you in person, but we are eager to see representatives of all Guild locals gathered virtually next month.
